Services held Monday for Mrs. T. E. Rich, Sr.
Mrs. Tom E. Rich, Sr., 84, member of a prominent Decatur County family, and who lived all her life in the county, died suddenly in her home last Saturday evening.
Funeral services were held in the First Baptist Church of this city at 11:00 a. m., Monday, January 15.
Services were conducted by Dr. James T. Burrell, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, the Reverend Joe H. Bridges, Pastor of the First Methodist Church, and Dr. Charles Bishop, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church.
Graveside services were conducted at Oak City Cemetery, and Dr. Burrell and Dr. B. Frank Cochran officiated.
Mrs. Rich was born in Climax on April 24, 1883, and was a member of a large and prominent Decatur County family. She was the former Miss Rosa Arline, and was married to the late Tom E. Rich, the youngest son of Elijah Andrew Jackson Rich, a pioneer of this county, in 1905. Mr. Rich passed away on December 9, 1965.
The deceased had made her home in Bainbridge for 55 years, and was an active and devoted member of the Baptist Church here. She was a member of the T. E. L. Sunday School Class, and a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was affectionately known to hosts of friends as "Miss Rosa".
Active pallbearers were: R. A. Griffin, Raleigh Rollins, John Grimsley, Jr., G. F. Battles, Jr., Lamar Butler and Bernard Nussbaum.
Mrs. Rich is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Charles N. Cooper of Bainbridge; two sons, T. E. Rich, Jr. of Moultrie and A. F. Rich of Tallahassee, Fla. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. A. E. Herrin of Shreveport, La.
