- "Tyre Bumgarner Dies on Tuesday
Tyre Bumgarner, 51, Wilkesboro merchant, died Tuesday, 6:30 p. m., in Wilkes General Hospital after a brief illness. On Monday he suffered a stroke which was followed by a heart attack on Tuesday morning.
A member of widely known Wilkes family, he was born in Wilkesboro January 24, 1906, a son of Linville and Bessie Ryan McNeill Bumgarner. For the past 24 years he had operated a grocery store on the corner of Main and Cherry streets in Wilkesboro. For several years Mr. Bumgarner had been a member of the board of directors of the Wilkesboro Building and Loan Association.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Doris Laws Bumgarner and daughter, Miss Linda Bumgarner, of the home; four brothers, E. E. Bumgarner of Winston-Salem, Wilkesboro Mayor Charlie Bumgarner, Rom L. Bumgarner and Thomas Bumgarner, all of Wilkesboro; six sisters, Mrs. R. O. Poplin of Elkin, Miss Pearl Bumgarner of Wilkesboro, Mrs. C. M. Hart of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mrs. J. V. Jennings of Petersburg, Va., Mrs. W. H. Riley of Raleigh and Mrs. Bryan Gilreath of North Wilkesboro.
Funeral services were conducted today, three p. m., at Wilkesboro Baptist Church by the Rev. Henry Morgan, pastor. Burial was in Mountlawn Memorial Park.
Pall bearers were Arlin Triplett, John Culler, George Kennedy, W. J. Bason, Albert Arnold, Clyde Hayes, R. B. Myers and James Lowe."
