I, A. E. Hendren of the aforesaid County and State being of sound and disposing memory but considering the uncertainty of the duration of my life, and knowing that death is appointed unto all men, do make, declare and publish this my last Will and Testament made by me in manner and forever as follows:
First: I commit my soul to God who gave it, and my body to the earth whence it was taken, and direct that it shall be accorded a decent burial comfortable to my station in life, and the wishes of my family and friends, and I further will and direct as follows:
1. I will, devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Matilda, all my property real, personal and mixed, of whatsoever name or description during the term of her natural life.
2. I will and devise unto my son Wm. Edward all that part of the tract of land lying south of the creek that runs down by the house after the death of my wife forever.
3. I will and devise unto my son James, all that part of my land lying north of the creek that runs down by the house after the death of my wife forever.
4. I hereby will and direct that the executor of this will to be hereinafter named shall after the death of my wife sell all my personal property that my said wife shall not consume during her life at public auction, and the proceeds of said to be divided equally among my five daughters.
5. I hereby appoint my son James executor to carry out and execute the several items of this will as herein directed.
Signed, sealed published and declared to be my last Will and Testament on this 2" day of Sept. 1898 in presence of:

Wilkes County Before the Clerk.
A paper writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament of A. E. Hendren, deceased, is exhibited before me, the undersigned Clerk of the Superior Court, for said County, J. J. Hendren the executor therein mentioned, and the due execution thereof by the said A. E. Hendren by the oath and examination of F. B. Hendren and H. C. Walker the subscribing witness thereto; both being duly sworn, doth depose and say, and each for himself deposeth and saith, that he is a subscribing witness to the paper writing now shown him, purporting to be the last Will and Testament of A. E. Hendren that the said A. E. Hendren, in presence of this deponent, subscribed his name at the end of said paper writing now shown as aforesaid and which bears the date of the 2" day of Sept. 1898.
And the Deponent further saith, That the said A. E. Hendren, the testator aforesaid, did at the time of subscribing his name as aforesaid, declare the paper writing so subscribed by him and exhibited to be his Last Will and Testament, and this deponent did thereupon subscribe his name at the end of said Will as an attesting witness thereto, and at the request and in the presence of said testator. and this deponent further saith, that at the said time when the said testator subscribed his name to the said Last Will as aforesaid, and at the time of deponent's subscribing his name as an attesting witness thereto as aforesaid, the said A. E. Hendren was of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will, and was not under any restrain to the knowledge, information or belief of this deponent:
and further these deponents say not.
