“HarrelI-Womack. Will be married on Sunday afternoon next at 3 o’clock, at the home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. G. N. Lewis, near Attapulgus, in this county, by Rev. Dr. Carswell of the Baptist church, Mr. Charles L. Harrell, of Bainbridge, and Miss Olive Womack, of Danville, Va. A large party of friends and relatives of the groom will go down to witness the solemnization of the bans, besides the immediate family, and all will return to the city soon after the conclusion of the ceremony during the cool of the late afternoon. The young lady who Mr. Harrell will draw in the matrimonial lottery is a most charming and beautiful one and is a sister of Mrs. G. N. Lewis, whose place of nativity is Danville, Va., and has been in Georgia for several months visiting her; while Mr. Harrell is a young man of fine business and moral character, and is loved and esteemed by all who know him as a young gentleman of rare promise and great moral worth. The Democrat takes occasion to tender its heartiest congratulations and good wishes to the happy pair, in advance of the auspicious event that shall make them one on next Sabbath afternoon; and “May the path they have chosen to walk in thro’ life Be strewn with earth’s rarest flowers, And their joys be as many-as heart can wish In this beautiful world of ours.”

  • Notes
    • Olive was orphaned at an early age, both her parents dying before she was ten years old.  She was the youngest of six, and was raised by her older sisters.  She moved down to Decatur County, Georgia with her sister Susie's family.  There, she met and married Charlie Harrell.  For the first few years, they lived in Charlie's mother's boarding house.  Shortly after the birth of their daughter, Cecil, they moved to a house on Shotwell Street.

Interestingly, she was listed in the 1900 census at the bottom as a single boarder in the household of her mother-in-law.  A marriage certificate shows she and Charles were married two years earlier.  At the time the census was taken, she would have been six months pregnant with her first child, Cecil!
