"An Old Citizen Gone.
Died at the home of his friend and neighbor, Mr. Euzema Rich, near Center, in this county on Monday afternoon last, in the 80th years of age, Mr. S. S. Mann-of general decline incident to age and long continued infirmity.
The deceased was well known throughout this county and section-where he had resided a great many years-and where he enjoyed the confidence and esteem of his fellow citizens-having represented the County in the General Assembly and for years acted as a Commissioner of Roads and Revenues. Mr. Mann's health had been very poor for several years, so he had broken up house-keeping (having never married, and being entirely alone in the world) and had gone to live with his friend and neighbor, Mr. Euzema Rich-who, we learn, he left a liberal bequest in his will-for his care and trouble with him in his last days.
The remains were interred in the city cemetery here on Tuesday afternoon in presence of a number of friends.
Peace to his ashes." |

Mr. John Chason, of Lower Spring Creek, has sold out his entire holdings of sheep, consisting of about 2,000 head, and his range to Euzema and A. J. Rich. These enterprising young men will take charge of their possession at once and expect to increase largely their extensive sheep and cattle business. This is a fine cattle section and the Rich boys have the energy and ability to make a fortune out of the business. Mr. Chason's plans for the future are as yet unsettled. It is expected that he will seek another locality in the county. He is one of the county's most progressive farmers." |

Among those who will move here, and who has already bought, is Mr. P. S. Cummings, Mr. E. Rich of Donalsonville is another who will move here in the near future. Mr. Rich is another man who is enterprising and has the financial ability to do great things. He is one of the best business men in this entire section. “A FISHY TALE Mr. Euzema Rich, one of the Decatur savants among fishermen, and there are many here, by the way, who seek the cool nooks on the rippling brooks or a shaded bank on the far-famed Spring Creek or else in a bateau brave the buffeting waves in the nearby Gulf to cast a dangling hook with alluring bait tempting the finny denizens of the deep—well, to get back to facts, for this is a fish tale—Mr. Rich unfolds from his myriad of incidents and accidents a 1921 model fishing fact—and it is true, for Mr. Rich tells it. A few afternoons ago Mr. Rich came in as usual with his large string of trout—ranging from one to six pounds each and upon cleaning them, he was amazed to find snugly ensconced in the stomach of a three-pounder, an undigested moccasin. The snake was 14 inches long—greater in length than the fish. All of which should prove that fishing is good when the savage relative of the cataeans will attack and devour a member of the Ophidia family. The fish and snake might have been playing the Jonah and the Whale stuff, but if they were, the trout was not sport enough to yield up the snake at the end of the traditional period. Mr. Rich distinctly remembers catching this particular fish, stating at the time it was caught that the fish was a male for he was caught with a “shimmy-wiggler” and Mr. Rich asserts that “shimmy-wigglers” do vamp male fish. Like unto man, says he.” |

”Bell Fishing. An unique way of catching fish has been developed among some of the pioneer fishermen of Bainbridge. Mr. J. W. Callahan took a party of friends fishing on his launch last week. When they tied up and each man to his canoe and negro rowman went out for his morning's work, Mr. Euzema Rich of the party happened upon a spring and in getting water from it, he found a small cow bell, which he threw into his canoe. When Mr. Rich came in for dinner, he left a set line and being of a witty nature, he attached the bell to the shrub that held the line. While at dinner the bell rang and upon investigation, a large trout was on the hook. Before the meal could be finished, the bell rang again and another trout was brought in. A “fish story” alright, but an absolutely true one.” |
