      Emanuel County I James Rich of Burke County and
      State aforesaid do hereby ordain, constitute and
      appoint my trusty friend Geneper Hall Junr of
      the State and County aforesaid, my true and lawful
      attorney, to call on the Surveyor General of this State
      for and to take out of his office the plot and grant
      for Lot No (253) two hundred and fifty three
      in the eighteenth District Early County, which
      was drawn in the name of James Rich; and to sell
      and convey said tract of Land containing two hun-
      dred and fifty acres, be the same more or less
      And he is hereby as fully authorized to call on the
      Surveyor General of this State for and to take out of
      his office said plat and grant of said Land and as
      fully authorized and empowered to sell and convey
      the said tract of Land and as good and perfect
      title hereunto as I myself might or could do were I per-
      sonally present, and I do hereby allow, ratify and
      confirm whatever my said attorney may or shall
      do in taking out said plat and grant; and in selling
      and conveying the tract of Land aforesaid--
      In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand
      and affixed my seal this 7th day of february 1821

    • State of Georgia This Indenture made this fourteenth
      Emanuel County day of February in the year of our
      Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty one between
      Geneper Hall Junr (the true and lawful attorney
      of James Rich of Burke County and Said State)
      of said State and County of the one part, and John
      Love of Said State and County of the other part
      Witnesseth: that the said Geneper Hall Junr
      attorney as aforesaid, for and in consideration of
      the sum of five hundred dollars here in hand
      paid by the said John Love at and before the sealing
      and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is
      hereby acknowledged have and do grant, bargain
      sell, alien, convey and confirm unto the said John
      Love his heirs and assigns, all that tract lot or
      parcel of Land, Situate, lying and being in the
      eighteenth District Early County, in Said State
      known and distinguished in the plan of said District by
      the No 253 two hundred and fifty three, containing
      two hundred and fifty acres be the same more or less
      which said tract of Land was granted to James
      Rich of Burke County, Torrences district, by the
      Governor or State of Georgia on the twelvth Instant
      and is bounded by lots no Two hundred and fifty
      four, two hundred and sixty eight, two hundred
      and fifty two, and two hundred and twenty eight
      having the shapes form and marks as appear
      by a plat of the same annexed to the grant-
      To have and to hold said tract of Land as above
      described, with all and singular, the rights members and
      appurtenances there unto belonging, or in any wise
      appurtaining, to the only proper use benefit and
      behoof of said John Love his heirs and assigns
      forever in fee simple. And the said Geneper Hall
      Junr, attorney as aforesaid for himself his heirs
      Executors or administrators the said tract of Land
      as above described, unto the said John Love his heirs
      and assigns, against the said Geneper Hall his heirs,
      Executors or administrators, unto the said John
      Love his heirs and assigns, shall and will warrant
      and forever defend from all and every person or
      persons claiming or to claim the same, by virtue
      of these presents
      In testimony whereof the said Geneper Hall Junr has
      here unto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and
      year first above written.

      Georgia This Indenture made this fourteenth day of February in the
      Burk County year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty one be-
      tween James Rich of the county of Burk and State of Georgia of the
      one part, and Bassengame G. Poulett and Wilsen Royall trading
      under the firm of Paulette & Royall of the other part Witnesseth
      that the said James Rich, for and in consideration of the sum of
      five hundred dollars to him in hand paid, at or before the
      sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby
      acknowledged hath granted bargained sold and conveyed unto the said Paulette &
      Royall their heirs and assigns, all that tract or parcel of land containing
      two hundred and fifty acres. situate lying and being in the Eighteenth District in the
      county of Early and known by Number two hundred and fifty three, drawn in
      the name of the said James Rich of Torrences District in the county aforesaid
      To have and to hold the said bargained premises or tract of land unto the
      said Paulette and Royall their heirs and assigns together with all and singular the rights
      members and appurtenances thereof to the same in any manner belonging to, and their own
      proper use benefit and behoof forever in fee simple, and the said James Rich for
      himself his heirs executors and administrators the said bargainer promises unto the
      said Paulette & Royall their heirs and assigns shall and with warrant and forever
      defend the right and titles thereof against themselves, and against the claims of
      all and every other person or persons whatsoever In witness whereof the said
      James Rich has hereunto set his hand and seal the day and date above written

      Floyd subscribe as witnesses, and that he was also a subscribing witness
      Sworn to 5th January 1824, before George Sessions, J.P. Stining Scarborough
      State of Georgia Personally came before me Matthew Floyd, and being duly sworn
      Burk County saith that he saw James Rich assign and deliver the within deed
      for the purposes therein mentioned and that he saw Stining Scarborough and Wm S.
      Shirley assign the same as witnesses, and he himself did the same

      Note that James is possibly in the household of Martin Rich in Emanuel County in the 1820 census. That same year, he is listed in neighboring Burke County with winnings from the land lottery. Is this the same person that moved down to Decatur County?
